Being here in Alaska God has showed me some pretty amazing things. But i realize the only reason why i see and hear these truths and mission opportunities that i am speaking of is because i seek after my heavenly father. I love spending time with him, and the sad truth of it is, i am nervous about coming home. I want this change that i can see to be real and life lasting.
But because I seek after God and spend time with him, he has opened my eyes and ears to something that i had been praying for, since before i got here, and that is to be able to see and hear the joys and struggles of others.
Lily's group is working with the Church of God in Christ which is right next to, if not really in, the Mountain View area. Her team from North Carolina has had an amazing impact on that little community of kids in that area. This is the first week that we have done an event in that area and God has blessed us. We had previously had teams go and canvas the area with flyers to tell them that we were going to be there, and that we want to help them with any needs but the community didn't want any of it. So even though we had some worries, God has blessed us tremendously.
Today though, we saw something, we saw a need that was going unmet. The kids were coming up to the team after the Bible camp, and asking if there was any left over snacks that they could bag up and take home for later, for a small dinner and to share with their dad. The team asked the kids if they had eaten anything for dinner or breakfast and they received hesitant replies. This community that was to scared to ask for food and help, is going with unmet needs, but because of the prayers of the past and open and receptive eyes and ears... God's love is going to be shown.
As we have done ministry in this area, a lot of our plans and thoughts of what to do has slightly changed, but all because we are seeing needs that are going unmet, and we are seeing problems that God is allowing us to fix.
As for this community that Lily's group is in, we are going to start changing our strategy a little so that we can feed the hungry and so that we can love on the community not with VBS snacks, but something filling that they are truly longing for.
